PDO thread treatment for subtle lift, skin quality and collagen stimulation.

SUITABLE FOR:

  • Anyone seeking to redefine facial contours and improve skin elasticity
  • Patients wanting to stimulate collagen growth for smoother, firmer contours
  • Men and women who prefer subtle, non‑surgical rejuvenation over dramatic lifting

What are Mono Threads?

Mono Threads are fine, smooth PDO (polydioxanone) threads inserted just beneath the skin to create a delicate scaffolding that stimulates collagen and elastin. Unlike cogged threads, which physically lift tissue, mono threads work quietly in the background – tightening, firming and improving skin quality over several months.

Every mono thread lift at Thames Dental and Skin is carried out personally by Dr Theodora Bravis, who will assess whether mono threads, our PDO COG Thread Lift or a combination is the right approach for your face.

Still confused about PDO, Mono and COG threads?

You’re not alone – the terminology is confusing. Here’s the simple version:

If your main concern is skin quality and subtle tightening, you’re on the right page. If you want a visible lifting effect, see our PDO COG Thread Lift

What will a chemical peel do for my skin?

Tighten and refine skin texture

As collagen rebuilds around the threads, skin becomes firmer, smoother and more refined over 2–3 months.

Stimulate collagen growth

The threads act as a controlled stimulus, encouraging your body to produce new collagen and elastin for long‑lasting quality improvements.

Reduce fine lines and wrinkles

Placed strategically, wrinkle reduction threads help soften lines across the cheeks, jawline, neck and around the eyes.

Define jawline and cheeks

Mono threads can subtly help define the jawline and cheeks, giving the face a fresher, slightly more lifted appearance without a surgical result.

Where can Mono Threads be used?

Mono Threads are incredibly versatile and can be used to treat:

If you’re looking for a more visible lifting effect to rejuvenate sagging jowls or reshape facial contours, the PDO COG Thread Lift may be more suitable – we’ll advise at consultation.

How does a Mono Thread treatment work?

After a detailed consultation, Dr Bravis will map the treatment areas and apply numbing cream for comfort. Fine PDO threads are then inserted just under the skin using a very thin needle or cannula, forming a soft mesh that stimulates collagen over the following weeks.

The treatment usually takes 30–60 minutes. The threads dissolve gradually over 6–9 months, but the new collagen they stimulate continues to support the skin well beyond that.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PDO threads, Mono Threads and COG threads?

PDO (polydioxanone) is the absorbable medical material the threads are made from – it’s been safely used in surgery for decades. Mono Threads are smooth PDO threads that tighten skin and stimulate collagen. COG Threads are PDO threads with tiny barbs that physically lift sagging tissue. So all three terms are related: PDO is the material; Mono and COG are the two main types of thread made from it.

Mono Threads vs PDO COG Thread Lift – which is right for me?

Mono threads are smooth and focus on skin tightening, wrinkle reduction and collagen stimulation – ideal for earlier signs of ageing and skin quality concerns. PDO COG threads have barbs and physically lift sagging tissue – ideal for defined jawline, jowl and mid‑face lifting without surgery. Dr Bravis will recommend the best fit for you at consultation, and the two can sometimes be combined.

What is a mono thread lift?

A mono thread lift uses fine, smooth PDO threads placed under the skin to stimulate collagen. Rather than physically lifting tissue, they gradually tighten and improve skin quality over 2–3 months.

Are Mono Threads safe?

Yes. PDO is a biocompatible material used in medicine for decades and is safely absorbed by the body over time. When performed by an experienced clinician like Dr Bravis, mono thread treatment has an excellent safety profile.

Is the treatment painful?

Most patients find mono threads very tolerable. Numbing cream is applied before the procedure, and the threads are inserted through a very fine needle or cannula – you’ll feel pressure rather than sharp pain.

What is the downtime after Mono Threads?

Downtime is minimal. Some patients experience mild swelling, tenderness or bruising for 2–5 days, but most return to normal activities immediately.

When will I see results and how long do they last?

Some tightening is visible straight away, but the real improvement builds over 2–3 months as new collagen forms. Results typically last 6–12 months, and can be maintained with regular top‑ups.

How many sessions do I need?

Many patients see a noticeable improvement after a single session. For more significant skin laxity, 2 sessions spaced a few months apart can deepen and extend the results.

Mono Threads vs Profhilo – what’s the difference?

Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid that hydrates and improves skin bounce. Mono threads are physical PDO threads placed under the skin to tighten and stimulate collagen. Profhilo is great for hydration and early laxity; mono threads suit patients wanting more structural tightening. The two can also be combined.

Can Mono Threads be combined with other treatments?

Yes – mono threads pair well with Profhilo, polynucleotides, anti‑wrinkle injections and LED light therapy as part of a broader rejuvenation plan.

Is Mono Threads treatment suitable for all skin types?

Yes, mono threads are suitable for most skin types and tones. A consultation is needed to confirm suitability and rule out any medical contraindications.

Do you offer Mono Threads to patients from Kingston, Esher, Surbiton and Walton‑on‑Thames?

Yes. Although we’re based in Thames Ditton, we regularly see patients looking for a non‑surgical thread lift near Kingston, PDO thread treatments in Esher, facial threads in Surbiton, skin lifting threads in Walton‑on‑Thames and thread‑based skin tightening in Surrey.

Looking for a more visible lifting effect?

If your main concern is sagging jowls, loose skin along the jawline or a drooping mid‑face, you may be a better candidate for our PDO COG Thread Lift – a non‑surgical thread face lift using cogged threads to physically reposition tissue.
